In an announcement early this morning, Olympus unveiled the presumed successor to its SP-560 18x ultra-zoom: the 20x, 10.0 megapixel SP-570 UZ. Offering a level of manual control rivaling that found on a DSLR and a 35mm-equivalent zoom range of 26mm to 520mm, the SP-570 sports a large 2.7-inch HyperCrystal LCD display with a wide viewing angle, an external flash hotshoe, and a unique bezel-ring zoom control.

Two new models in Olympus's Stylus SW series of shockproof/waterproof cameras continue the company's tradition of building devices that can stand up to the elements. The 8 megapixel Olympus Stylus 850 SW and 10 megapixel Stylus 1030 SW are shockproof, waterproof, freezeproof, and dustproof, providing a high level of protection for outdoor shooting in extreme conditions. Additionally, the 1030 SW is touted as crushproof up to 220 pounds per square foot, and is able to survive drops of up to 6.6 feet.

Pre-PMA 2008: Olympus today announced two new models in its 'heavy duty' Stylus SW series. SW range cameras are (within limits) shock- and water proof and generally well known for their ruggedness. The 1030SW sports a 10MP sensor and comes with a 3.6x (28-102mm equiv.) zoom lens, the 850SW features an 8MP imaging sensor and a 3x (38-114mm equiv.) zoom. Both cameras will be available from February.

Pre-PMA 2008: Olympus has today announced its 20x zoom SP-570 UZ as a replacement for the SP-560 UZ and by doing so reconquered the sole number one spot in the race for the longest superzoom lens on a compact camera. The lens has 'grown' at both ends and is now covering the astounding range of 26-520mm (35mm equivalent). Inevitably there has also been an increase in resolution, from 8 to 10M

Pre-PMA 2008: Looking at Olympus diminuitive Stylus (mju) range, you'd be forgiven for thinking that the 5x zoom range currently employed was the biggest which would fit. However, Olympus has other plans and has shoehorned a whopping 7x 37-260 mm equivalent optic onto the front plate of the 10.1 megapixel Stylus 1010 and 1020. Also announced was the Stylus 840 with 8.0 MP and a 36-180 mm range. Catch all three on the shelves from February.

Pre-PMA 2008: Olympus today announced the latest additions to its FE-range of compact digital cameras. All sporting 8 megapixel sensors, the new cameras differ in zoom range, with the FE-310 and FE-340 packing 5x 36-180 equiv. optics and the FE-350 Wide extending the wide end and reigning in the tele for a useful 28-112. All will be available from February.

With the release of the Stylus 840, Stylus 1010, and Stylus 1020, Olympus brings Dual Image Stabilization and sharp 2.7-inch LCDs to their Stylus line of premium compact cameras. All three new models feature sensor-shift image stabilization in addition to ISO boost functionality. The 8.0 megapixel, 5x zoom Stylus 840 and 10.1 megapixel, 7x zoom Stylus 1010 and 1020 all use Olympus's TruePic III image processor developed for the company's DSLRs which promises improved high-ISO performance and better color reproduction.
