Camera Labs Reviews Olympus E-420

Jan 1, 1970 Filed under: Olympus

The Olympus E-420 DSLR was reviewed by the folks over at Camera Labs and lets see what the verdict is. The 10 Megapixel DSLR  when compared to its predecessor has some minor tweaks like a bigger screen and a bigger grip. Another nifty addition is the  ew contrast-based autofocus option in Live View, which makes focusing easier.   The small size of the  DSLR makes it ideal for point and shoot users as well those who take their photography seriously. The anti-dust system is quite effective and the interface quite intuitive. Verdict: "So with the E-420 and pancake lens, Olympus has created a DSLR kit which will appeal to a broad group of buyers: those upgrading from a point and shoot, those who leave a DSLR at home because it's too big or heavy, and those who want a smaller, lighter backup body to a higher-end model."

Jan 1, 1970 Filed under: Olympus

Firmware Ver1.1 is now available for Olympus E3 DSLR  and offers the following upgrades: * Enabled use of the Image Stabilization function with non-Four Thirds System interchangeable lenses by inputting a specific focal length.       For details on operations, please click on the URL.     * Matched the rotation of the dial on the rear of the Power Battery Holder HLD-4 and the movement direction of the AF target.     * Increased the number of storable still pictures by improving the battery check when the Power Battery Holder HLD-4 is attached.     * Focusing now stops immediately when the AF start button (AEL/AFL or Fn button) is released.     * Corrected the phenomenon where the flash control caused an under exposure while using bounce flash at short distances with the FL-50R or FL-36R Electronic Flash.     * Improved selection and prioritization of the central 5 ranging points when shooting in C-AF mode and Dynamic-single Target mode. Dpreview on Olympus E-420

Jan 1, 1970 Filed under: Olympus

Dpreview has done an in-depth analysis of the Olympus E-420 and recommend the camera. The lightweight digital SLR has great ergonomics and is a fast performer. Live View does it job well and offers up to ten times magnification. Image quality didn't disappoint either and the interface was quite intuitive. Excerpt from the review: "In conclusion, the E-420 is an ideal walkaround camera with a great feature set and unrivalled customizability. The image quality issues described above very slightly tarnish the positive overall picture but if compact dimensions and pocketability are high up on your list of buying criteria the E-420 should still be one of your favorites".

Sample Shots from Olympus E520

TamsPalm, a photography blog was able to post some sample images taken from the newly announced Olympus E520. All images have been left untouched and the external FL36R flash was disabled on most shots unless specified. Says the reviewer: "Cutting a long story short: the Olympus E520 delivers good (albeit slightly "unsharp") JPG images at its factory settings. Tweaking the parameters around a bit would probably lead to even better photos: however, this is IMHO better achieved by shooting in RAW and processing the files on the desktop."
