Pentax has released a new lens designed specifically for their digital SLRs. The new F4 AL, 17 - 70 mm SDM lens features two "hybrid aspherical" lens elements, a "supersonic" lens motor, and a dust/water resistant coating. Do note that the SDM lens motor is only supported on the K10D, K20D, K100D Super, and K200D, so it will be a manual focus lens on everything else. The 17 - 70 will ship in July for under $600.

In the build-up to PMA 2008, Pentax announced that a pair of new telephoto primes - a 200mm f/2.8 and a 300mm f/4 - would be joining its high-end DA* series of lenses this spring. We took a look at the DA* 200mm f/2.8 back in March and were, to put it mildly, blown away by the price-to-performance ratio it offered.
