Sigma UK have today unveiled the price of the new Sigma DP1 compact camera. 

The basic camera will initially sell for £549 or £599 with the optional viewfinder. This puts it squarely in entry-level DSLR territory - distinctly affordable for photographers committed to achieving large-sensor image quality.

Sigma have announced the 10-20mm f/4-5.6 EX DC HSM 70-200mm F2.8 II EX DG MACRO HSM lenses in the Four Thirds mount.

Sigma have announced two new lenses for Sony and Pentax cameras - the 50-150mm f/2.8 EX DC HSM and 70-200mm f/2.8 II EX DG HSM. 

Sigma has added a built-in motor to the 70-300mm f/4-5.6 APO DG Macro and 70-300mm f/4-5.6 DG Macro lenses to make them compatible with Nikon DSLRs.

Sigma's second camera to accumulate "near mythic" status in as many years, the compact DP1, is up for pre-order on Amazon.

Sigma has finally announced the official launch of the Sigma DP1 digital camera. This new camera is a different creation in all respects. The Sigma DP1 is a compact digital camera which features a 14 megapixel Foveon X3 direct image sensor, (2652 × 1768 × 3 layers). It offers five Exposure modes and three Metering modes as well as being equipped with a built-in flash, hot shoe, neck strap and 2.5" LCD monitor with 230,000 pixels. We've seen this one before, but what an awesomely-spec'd lens. It looks like it was made for the military. At 34.6 lbs (15,700g), you're not going to hand-hold this one.

It would be nice to see "EX" in that name, but a 4-stop OS is a nice addition to what looks like the Sigma 50-500mm EX Lens.

Looks like an updated Sigma 80-400mm EX Lens - without the "EX". HSM is a very welcome improvement in this case.

The long-awaited and long-delayed Sigma DP1 is back at another trade show! First unveiled at Photokina in September 2006, the DP1 is now slated for a March release, priced at $1000 rrp or $800 street. The sample that I tried was still a little rough around the edges, but it looks as if the Sigma DP1 will finally see the light of day. Pre-PMA 2008: Sigma has announced the imminent availability of the greatly anticipated DP1 digital camera. The DP1 has a sensor around the size of those found in most DLSRs - although it is greatly different in terms of design - and aims to offer equivalent image-quality and specification in a compact format. In common with Sigma's DSLR offerings it utilizes Foveon's direct-image-sensor technology which detects three colors at each of its 4.6 million pixels (collecting the same amount of color data as a conventional 14 megapixel sensor). Pre-PMA 2008: As part of Sigma's bumper lens launch, it has announced what might be the ultimate wildlife lens. Sigma claims the APO 200-500 f.2.8 is the world's first lens to offer an f/2.8 aperture at 500mm focal length. It comes with an "attachment" to give users a handy 400-1000mm f/5.6 option. The lens (which is cosmetically reminiscent of a piece of military hardware) weighs nearly 16kg and uses a dedicated Li-ion battery to provide power for focusing and zooming. It will be available in Sigma, Canon and Nikon mounts.

Pre-PMA 2008: To satisfy photographers who are absolutely terrified of the things they like to photograph, Sigma has introduced the frankly enormous 150-500mm f/5-6.3 zoom. Pre-PMA 2008: Sigma has announced the launch of 70-200mm and 50-150mm constant f/2.8 lenses for Pentax and Sony owners wanting lovely bright, sensibly-priced telephoto zooms. Both are part of Sigma's premium EX range and include hypersonic focusing motors and apochromatic design.

Sigma has announced that it is to make its unstabilized 18-200mm F3.5-6.3 DC lens compatible with Nikon's D40 and D40x SLRs which lack an in-body focus motor. Previously 'screwdriver' driven, the new lens will sport an integral motor to shift the glass around and will sit aside the 18-200 OS in Sigma's 2008 range. Making up for the lack of stabilization is the reduction in size and weight - over 24 mm (0.9 in) of length and a handy 215g (7.6 oz) of weight have been lost compared to its big brother which wasn't exactly obese to begin with. Pricing and availability are yet to be announced.

A new version of the Sigma 18-200mm F3.5-6.3 DC Lens is compatible with the Nikon D40 and D40x DSLR cameras. 

Sigma Photo Pro 2.3 includes new image processing code, which provides better auto white balance performance.
